A ride report by the Professor.
It’s been raining in the valleys for the past two days. That means wet, heavy snow in the mountains. As of this morning the Provo mountains had received 16″ of new snow. So, what were we thinking? We drove up to the Pine Hollow trailhead up the Alpine Loop. We got about 200 yards up the road before we turned around. Lots of deep heavy snow. Good for skis and snowshoes, not so good for bikes. We drove to Tibble Fork and conditions were much better. The snow was packing better and there was a lot more traffic. We got about a mile or so up the road before we turned around. It was snowing heavily, and it was windy, sometimes blowing the snow horizontally. I like a good storm, but the snow was deep and heavy. And the snowmobiles were just churning it up making for difficult riding conditions. So, a short ride today. Next time I’ll bring my skis.
